Application: The test is used after the water-softener stage of the clean-up process. Softening is a pretreatment for water that usually undergoes further purification processes like reversed osmosis. Hard water can damage the delicate osmosis units, thus decreasing its effectiveness and operating life.

3. Operation
1. Use the transferpetter measure 15mL testing liquid to Erlenmeyer flask.
2. Add a pack of reagent I, sway the flask, if the liquid become blue, the hardness of water is below 0.4mg/L, or please go to step 3.
3. Use another transferpetter measure 1mL reagent II.
4. Add reagent II while swaying the flask till liquid turn blue from purple, repeat step 3 and 4 when 1mL is not enough, record the volume V.
5. The hardness of the testing liquid =V*20 (mg/L, calculated as CaCO3).
Notes:
1. Wash the Erlenmeyer flask with deioniazed water before testing.
2. The PH of testing liquid must be controlled between 6 and 9.
3. Avoid bubbles when measuring liquid with transferpetter.
